Listen, everyone is innocent until proven guilty; we know that. But it's hard to believe people who have proven to be untrustworthy in other ways.

And we haven't even mentioned Manny Ramirez. Why? Because that happened last week.

Fans want to embrace the game and move past the talk of who did what -- or who hasn't yet been caught. The trouble is, the game won't allow it. There's a list of names still out there and the names will start to trickle out at some point. Talk about torture. It will be a slow drip ... drip ... drip of controversy and it could take the sport years before it really feels clean again. "I was able to hit my spots with the fastball, and everything seemed to work off of that," said Taylor, who threw 76 pitches and struck out seven in the five-inning gem. "I was able to work fast, and that's how I like to work."

Taylor threw 52 pitches through the first four innings, walked three and allowed only four baserunners.

 "He's come through for us every time this year," Falcons catcher Alex Ramsay said. "He's the guy we're leaning on in these playoffs."

Kyle Convissar hit a two-run homer in the second inning, and Brent Jones went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and five RBIs. Jones' walk-off, three-run double in the fifth clinched Severna Park's semifinal rematch with South River today.

"It was a tough game," said Broadneck catcher Nick Storey, who struck out to end the fifth. "Things didn't fall our way, and that's what happens in a tough game."

Taylor didn't run into much trouble during the first four innings, walking Luke Penne in the first and Steven Herr in the second. C.J. Ricker ground out to end the second, and Taylor retired seven consecutive hitters to take a 6-0 lead into the fifth.

The Braves, nontheless, got to feel the full force of that anger which was forged when the Jackets were unceremoniously dumped from the playoffs in this round a year ago.

After an eight-year drought, the Indian River High School baseball team earned the Southeastern District regular-season title after defeating Western Branch 4-1 Tuesday.

 Indian River (15-2 in the district, 17-2 overall) clinched the authentic Matt Cain jersey Black title at its last home game, on Senior Night. The regular-season crown earns Indian River an automatic qualifier to the regional tournament.

"It's crazy, because since I've been here, we've had a lot of talented teams that could have done this but somehow didn't," said senior right-fielder Lance Alley. "I'm not sure what it is, but for some reason this team seems to jell. We have fun and play well together."

 The Cinderella story continues for the Braves, though now they are no longer underdogs.

 Last season, Indian River, fourth in the district, was the final team to make the district playoffs. The Braves won the district tournament title and advanced to the state quarterfinals before getting eliminated. With the strong finish, the Braves came in this season as one of the district favorites.

"We lost three key players but had a lot of key guys back," said Braves head coach Steve West. "But this team turned out a little different.
